Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS)

"DuPage P.A.D.S. is committed to providing safe and hospitable shelter, support services and advocacy to people who are homeless in DuPage County.

Vital to this commitment is our collaboration with religious and community groups in the county."

The DuPage Unitarian Universalist Church has been active in the  Dupage Public Action to Deliver Shelter program since 2003.  Once a month volunteers from the DuPage UU Church staff an interim (overnight) housing facility at a local church where we provide dinner, breakfast, and a bag lunch; sleeping space; and support activities for our guests.

DuPage PADS is working to provide shelter each night of the year. From October - April, three sites are open each night with a maximum bed capacity of 140. During May - September, one shelter site is open on most nights with a maximum bed capacity of 80-90.

October through May Site:
1st Congregational Church of Naperville

Benton & Center St., 4th Wednesday night/Thursday morning

Directions

From the south: take Washington St, north through the center of Naperville, Benton is the 2nd light past Jefferson Ave. Turn right onto Benton and the church is on the left at the end of the first block. Turn left onto Center. Take the following left into the parking lot behind the church. Additional parking is available in the bank parking lots adjacent to the church. The entrance for PADS is at the northwest corner of the building.

From the north: (from DUUC) go south on Naper Blvd. and turn right (west) onto Ogden Ave. Turn left (south) on Washington St. Continue south on Washington going under the railroad tracks. Benton Ave. is the 4th left after the RR tracks. The church is on the left at the end of the first block, parking is in the rear.

June through September Site:
1st Presbyterian Church in Glen Ellyn

500 Anthony Street, 4th Thursday night/Friday morning

Directions

The 1st Presbyterian Church in Glen Ellyn is at 500 Anthony Street, at the corner of Main, 3 blocks north of the Union Pacific (Metra) railroad tracks.

From the south: Illinois 53 north to Park Blvd. (Park is a left turn just north of I-88) Left (north) on Park ~`4.5 miles into downtown Glen Ellyn. Still on Park, cross the Union Pacific (Metra) tracks to Pennsylvania (2nd street after tracks). Left (west) on Pennsylvania 2 blocks to Main. Right (north) on Main 2 blocks to Cottage. Left (west) on Cottage to first church parking lot on the left. If that lot is full, turn left off Cottage at the west end of the church into the second parking lot.

From Naper Blvd: North on Naper Blvd (Wheaton-Naperville Road) to Butterfield Rd. (Illinois 56). Right (east) on Butterfield to Park Blvd. Left (north) on Park Blvd then follow the directions above to the 1st Presbyterian Church.
