High School Youth Group

High School Youth Group

Ninth through Twelfth Grade – 11:15 (Sept - May)

Spring Con 2013 will be the weekend of April 20th.

High School youth meet each Sunday with adult advisors during the second service in the Founder’s Room development of leadership skills. The aim is to build a safe community with their peers that is outside of their High School. The high school youth group plan trips to various events in the area and has several overnights at the church during the year. They plan and participate in various Social Action/ Social Justice Projects, including Sleep Out Saturday, where the youth raise money & awareness for the homeless in our area by sleeping outside in cardboard boxes.

The highlight of youth group is attending UUA Youth Conferences. At these events, youth participate in planned & spontaneous activities and meet other young UUs from churches in Wisconsin, Missouri, Indiana, Michigan and other parts of Illinois. Lasting friendships develop within the local youth group and across the district. CON’s are notorious for bringing teens ‘out of their shell’ and helping to develop social skills and confidence.

Youth Group is a wonderful experience for teens – it broadens their perspectives and gives them a comfortable atmosphere in which to discuss the issues they are dealing with, as they become adult.
